Dessa AI Waitlist: How to Get Access (And Avoid the Fakes)
Dessa is the most talked-about voice AI of the month — and almost nobody can use it yet. If you're searching for a download, an app, or an API key, this guide will save you time and possibly money: here is exactly where access stands, how the real waitlist works, and what to watch out for.
Step 1: Go to the only official place
The Dessa waitlist lives on Block's official page: block.xyz/dessa. That is the page with the demo recordings, the research announcement and the sign-up for updates and early access. There is no Dessa app in any app store, no Dessa download, and no Dessa token or coin. Anything using those names today is trading on the hype, not affiliated with Block.
Step 2: Understand who gets in first
Block is rolling access out in a deliberate order. The very first outside users are a small group of AI safety researchers, invited to probe the model for risks Block hasn't anticipated — deception, impersonation and misuse of a voice that can pass for human. Applications from researchers use institutional affiliation as a signal of legitimacy. The general public waitlist runs alongside that process, but Block has given no public release date, and wider availability will presumably depend on what the safety testing finds.
Step 3: Know the price — there isn't one
Block has announced no pricing, no paid tier and no reseller program for Dessa. Joining the waitlist is free. So treat any “Dessa Pro,” “early access pass” or paid unlock as a red flag: if someone is charging you for Dessa access, they are not selling you Dessa.
What to do while you wait
- Listen to the demos critically. The recordings on Block's page are the ground truth for what Dessa sounds like today — including its mistakes. Note what impresses you and what doesn't; you'll be a smarter first tester.
- Practice with today's voice tools. Full-duplex conversation is a skill shift: interrupting, thinking aloud and using tone deliberately all transfer directly when your invitation arrives.
- Follow primary sources only. Block's page and the Dessa team's posts are the signal; rumor accounts inventing release dates are noise.
- Check your inbox weekly, spam folder included, so an invitation doesn't expire unnoticed.
The questions everyone asks
Is there a Dessa API for developers? Not announced. No documentation, no keys, no pricing per minute — unlike hosted rivals such as OpenAI's realtime voice API, which is available today at a published per-minute rate. Will Dessa run on a phone? Block has only claimed a MacBook Pro with M4 Max or better for local inference; nothing about phones has been announced. Is there a Dessa download on Hugging Face? No — Block has released no weights or model files.
When access opens wider, this blog will publish a hands-on getting-started guide the same day. Until then, the waitlist is free, the demos are genuinely worth ten minutes of your time — and your guard should stay up for anything that asks for your wallet.
