Is Dessa AI Available? How to Get Dessa Right Now

2026-11-03 · 7 min read · By DessaAI Daily

Two new searches showed up in our Search Console data this week — “is dessa available” and “how to get dessa” — and both deserve a straight, short answer before anything else. No, Dessa AI is not publicly available today, and there is no way to buy, download or unlock it. Block announced Dessa on October 23, 2026 as a research preview. Early access is going first to a small group of AI safety researchers, a public waitlist is open on Block's official Dessa page, and Block has not announced a public release date, pricing, an API or model weights. Anyone telling you otherwise — especially anyone charging money for access — is not offering something Block released.

That short answer is the whole status today, November 3, 2026. The rest of this article explains what “available” currently means in practice, who actually has Dessa, the one legitimate way to get in line, and how to spot the fake routes that these searches run into. For the deeper timing picture, see our guide to when Dessa AI will be available; for the sign-up process itself, see the Dessa AI waitlist guide, which remains this site's most-read and most-clicked article for good reason.

Is Dessa available? The status, group by group

Availability depends entirely on who you are. For a small group of AI safety researchers, Dessa is available in a limited early-access form — Block has said safety researchers go first so they can look for risks the team has not anticipated. That is a deliberate choice, and our article on whether Dessa AI is safe explains why a model that hears emotion and sounds this human is being tested for impersonation and manipulation risks before it is handed to the public.

For everyone else — creators, businesses, developers and the simply curious — Dessa is not available. There is no public product, no app, no download and no developer access. What the public can do today is listen to Block's recorded demos, which are live, unsteered recordings published by Block itself, and join the waitlist. That is genuinely all. If that sounds anticlimactic, it is also exactly what Block announced: a research preview, not a launch.

How to get Dessa: the one legitimate route

The only legitimate route in is the waitlist on Block's official Dessa page at block.xyz/dessa. Joining it is free. Block has not announced when general invites will go out, how many people will be invited at a time, or whether access will arrive as a product, a download or something else — anyone quoting you an invite date is guessing. When invites do begin, our first-session test plan will help you use a limited first session well: start with conversation itself — interruptions, backchanneling, the same sentence delivered happy and frustrated — because those are the claims Dessa actually makes.

There is no paid tier to jump the queue, no partner programme selling seats, and no “pro” version. Block has not announced pricing of any kind, so a price tag attached to Dessa access anywhere is, by itself, proof the offer is fake. Similarly, there is no Dessa download: Block says the model runs locally on a MacBook Pro M4 Max or better in its own testing, but it has released no weights and no installer — our explainer on Dessa AI open weights covers what has and has not been released.

How to get Dessa sooner — honestly

People searching “how to get dessa” often mean “how do I get it sooner,” so here is the honest version. If you are an AI safety researcher, Block's page is explicitly addressed to you, and early access is aimed at your group first. If you are not, there is no known shortcut: not a paid upgrade, not a referral code, not a third-party “activation” service. The realistic moves are to join the official waitlist, follow Block's official page for changes, and watch a status tracker rather than rumours. Our Dessa Tracker records the status board — access, pricing, API, weights and release date — and changes the day Block changes any of it.

What you can do while you wait is more useful than refreshing. If you need voice AI for real work today, several systems are actually available now; our roundup of Dessa AI alternatives you can use today compares them honestly against what Dessa promises. And if you are planning a product or a business process around speech-native AI, our guide to how businesses should prepare for speech-native AI sets out what can be built and tested now, before Dessa's access question is settled.

The fake routes these searches find

Scarcity plus a famous name is a scam formula, and the warning signs are consistent. Sites offering a “Dessa AI download” are not distributing a Block release, because none exists. Sellers offering “early access accounts” cannot deliver what only Block controls. Apps in stores using the Dessa name are not Block products — Block has announced no app and no phone support. And any page quoting a Dessa price, subscription or token is inventing it: no pricing has been announced. The safe habit is simple: if it did not come from block.xyz/dessa, treat it as unverified, and never pay for access to a model whose maker says access is a free waitlist and a staged safety rollout.

So: is Dessa available? For safety researchers, in a limited way, yes. For the public, not yet — and “how to get Dessa” has exactly one honest answer today: join the free official waitlist and wait for Block to widen access. We check the status daily and will say so here the moment that changes.
